Vivo X Fold is real! The first folding smartphone from Vivo has been spotted in the wild and surprisingly (or rather unsurprisingly), it doesn’t look any different than the Samsung and Oppo foldable phones. It has the same kind of a large folding inner display that is visible in this leaked image. The X Fold is largely similar to the Oppo Find N, where in its aspect ratio is wider than that of the Galaxy Fold series devices. And yes, it has a camera cutout at the centre.
The Vivo X Fold, however, unlike the Samsung foldable, does not have any crease at its centre. Rumours say that Vivo has gone for a complex hinge mechanism that prevents the development of any crease. It will have a a layer of Ultra Thin Glass as its material, which is the case with most foldable devices. It was spotted by a Chinese blogger on the subway.
A previous leak showed us a schematic of the Vivo X Fold, and that presented a similar concept as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The rear could have a quad camera setup from the conventional Vivo X series flagships.
That inner foldable display with have a 8-inch QHD+ flexible OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The phone will rely on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, and will be powered by a 4600mAh battery. Vivo will give it the 80W fast wired charging solution and a 50W wireless charging solution.
What remains to be seen is how Vivo prices its first foldable phone. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 currently is the most expensive and well-equipped foldable phone in the market you can buy. Oppo and Xiaomi have launched their foldable at much lower prices in the past. Vivo could either follow the strategies of its Chinese rivals, or it could aim straight for Samsung in its first attempt.
On the other hand, Vivo has been focusing on launching a couple of high-powered flagships recently under its iQOO sub-brand. The iQOO 9 Pro is currently the most powerful phone from the Vivo stable, utilising the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Chip, and the 50MP Samsung GN5 main camera sensor with a five-axis stabilisation.
